The return of the tiger mosquitoes

Summer is a very popular season for many reasons: the summer vacation period, the days that lengthen until late at night, the sun, the heat, the beach, the swimming pool, the ice cream, the nautical activities, the various festivals, fireworks, etc. However, these good times are sometimes marred by certain insects: tiger mosquitoes.

Each year, maps are drawn up to allow us to identify their proliferation. The map below lists the departments colonized by these little beasts since January 1, 2022.

Local residents are attentive to places that could be potentially favorable to the reproduction of the species. They then report to the town hall so that it can take the necessary measures as quickly as possible.

Tiger mosquitoes appreciate stagnant water around gardens and plants. Their favorite egg-laying places are generally small receptacles and pools of stagnant water. Once the eggs hatch, the mosquitoes become adults in just one to two weeks and it is then very difficult to dislodge them.

In the majority of cases, bites only cause simple irritation, but sometimes they can transmit diseases (up to 26 different viruses) such as dengue fever, chikungunya or zika.

Prevention and awareness are extremely important, which is why “STOP MOSQUITOS” campaigns are broadcast in cities and also on social networks to explain the actions to be taken to limit their proliferation.

Before getting to certain steps such as the swatter, candles, diffusers and insecticides, it is essential to treat directly at the source.

It is also recommended, if you have air conditioning at home, to turn it on because these pests hate the cold. If you don’t have one, you can also invest in mosquito nets, you will gain peace of mind at home. Finally, some classic repellent sprays work very well to keep them away from you
